I had to say goodbye to an old friend this week. Our friendship started in the spring of 2008 and came to an abrupt end a few days ago. We enjoyed many hours and many miles traveling the highways and byways of Metro Indianapolis. This old boy was the work horse for my company, AC Trash Hauling & More. He hauled trash, junk, appliances, furniture tree limbs, and electronics without complaint for over five years. This was after he retired as a crew truck for a construction company for about 10 years.
In recent years he underwent major surgery and had an engine replaced. It wasn’t his fault, someone put 5 lbs of sugar in the gas tank. The electrical system was causing problems, the tailgate was worn out , and the hood latch needed constant attention. Let’s face it after 15 years and 285,000 thousand miles you could expect a few minor problems.
The cab of this truck served as a classroom to several young men during our time together. It was there ,that we talked about life, family, Christ, sports, politics, business, sex, drugs, and rock and roll. It didn’t start out that way, but there was a lot of mentoring taking place.
Thanks for the memories and your hard work. You will be missed.
That’s the way I see it.
